Korean Community Development Partners with GCI in Philly

The Korean Community Development Service Center (KCDSC) just partnered with the Green Clean Institute(GCI).

KCDSC of Philadelphia is now the first GCI Training Center in the Philadelphia Region. This partnership will provide meaningful Environmental Health Services educational programs for job seekers (Apprentice Level) and provide experienced EHS employees (Master Level) with the tools to improve their EHS Body of Knowledge (EHSBOK)*.

KCDSC serves to empower individuals to reach their full employment potential. When motivated persons are provided with the support, skills, and resources to make informed choices about their lives, they will become and remain employed – thereby building a foundation for a stable, productive and meaningful life for themselves and their family. Employment is the catalyst to a person’s wellness.

The Green Clean Institute Technician course has been verified by the International Sanitary Supply Association. ISSA is a Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association. GCI graduates will receive two certifications upon completion, one from ISSA and another from GCI for completing the EHS Technician Course.

Environmental Health Service (Janitorial/Custodial) jobs do matter; they are projected to grow by 12 percent from 2012-2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Many new jobs are expected in facilities related to health care, as this industry is expected to grow rapidly. EHS employees held about 2.3 million jobs in 2012. About 34 percent were employed in the services to the building and dwellings industry, and another 14 percent were employed in elementary and secondary schools.

There are approximately 1,500 large, medium and small Building Maintenance Service providers in the Philadelphia Region. KCDSC and GCI will be building partnerships with regional providers to adopt and employ our Green EHS graduates. There’s no financial obligation, just a commitment to provide job placement where and when it exist.
